What's New: First-Time Setup and the Popup in Your Language
This release makes Letter Moth easier to start with and easier to read in your own language. New accounts now get a short first-time setup screen, the popup itself is available in seven languages with a picker in the header, and the popup keeps one light look on every computer, matching the Chrome Web Store listing.
Here is what each change does, what is saved where, and how to change your choices later.
What is the first-time setup screen?
The first time you sign in with a new account, the popup now opens a setup screen instead of dropping you straight into the composer. It asks for the few things that most improve your drafts: your name, an optional line about who you are, the language your messages are written in and whether to use formal or informal address, your default tone, and two privacy choices.
You can save and start writing, or press Skip for now, which saves the defaults so the screen does not come back. Everything on it can be changed later in Settings.
Who sees the setup screen, and who does not?
Only accounts that have never saved settings see it. If you used Letter Moth before this release and your settings are saved, you go straight to the composer as usual, and nothing about your account changes. The check is made on your account, so signing in on a second computer does not repeat the setup.
If the popup cannot reach your account, for example because you are offline, it does not show the setup screen. It shows your last saved settings instead, and a short banner tells you what happened.
What can you set on the setup screen?
The screen is deliberately short. Each field maps to something that changes the drafts you get.
- Name and who you are: your name signs the message, and one line about your role gives the draft something real to say about you.
- Message language and form of address: the default language for drafts, with the country variant, and formal or informal address where the language has it.
- Tone: natural, professional, casual, warm or concise, used unless you choose another for a single message.
- Privacy: whether Letter Moth asks before sending page text, and whether the page address is included by default. Letter Moth only reads a page when you click, and nothing is ever sent for you.
How do the popup languages work?
The popup now speaks English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Dutch. There is a language picker in the popup header, and on the sign-in screen, the setup screen and in Settings. The first time you open the popup it follows your browser's language, and after that it remembers what you chose on that browser.
This setting is separate from the language your drafts are written in. You can use the popup in English and write drafts in German, or use the popup in Dutch and write in English. The draft language is chosen with the Write in menu and saved to your account, while the popup language only changes the labels, buttons and messages on that browser.
Some messages come from the server, such as unusual errors. Common ones are shown in your language, and the rest appear as they arrive. The right-click menu and the small notices that appear on the page are still in English.
Why is the popup always light now?
Until now the popup followed your computer's dark mode, so on some machines it looked dark while the Chrome Web Store listing and the website are light. The popup now keeps one light look everywhere, so what you see after installing matches the screenshots you saw before.
How do you change these choices later?
Open the popup and press Settings. Your name, profile, default tone, default message language, form of address, right-click default and privacy choices are all there. The popup language can be changed from the header at any time.
If you have not tried Letter Moth yet, install it, sign in with Google, and the setup screen will walk you through the rest. For the languages in detail, see Write LinkedIn messages and cold emails in other languages, and for the install steps see how to install Letter Moth.

Frequently asked questions
Will I see the setup screen again on another computer?
No. It is shown only to accounts that have never saved settings, and the check is made on your account.
Can I skip the setup?
Yes. Press Skip for now and the defaults are saved. You can change them later in Settings.
Does the popup language change the language of my drafts?
No. The popup language only changes the labels and messages in the popup. Drafts use the language you choose with the Write in menu.
Is my popup language saved to my account?
No. It is remembered on the browser where you chose it, and it starts from your browser's language the first time.
Can I use dark mode?
The popup now always uses the light look, to match the Chrome Web Store listing and the website.
